Salish Sea Research Center Logo

Description:

The Salish Sea Research Center (SSRC) is a grant funded student and faculty led research lab at Northwest Indian College (NWIC). The SSRC works in partnerships with tribal communities and environmental agencies to conduct water quality research throughout the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, the SSRC provides educational opportunities for PreK and K-12 students.

This logo was designed with the mission of place-based environmental research in mind. Every component of the ecological food web (orcas, salmon, crab, plankton, the intertidal zone) is embedded throughout the cultural designs.

U.S. Symposium on Harmful Algae Logo

Description:

The logo includes the outline of New York state surrounded by two bodies of waters which represent the Atlantic and Pacific Coast lines. As I was creating this design, it just so happened that the two coastlines began to form what looked like the number 11. There are a variety of phytoplankton species throughout the logo which are designed in the style of Coast Salish tribes. There is also the Hudson River representing freshwater systems and a sun bringing the entire ecosystem together.
